Frank Rieg

Frank Rieg (born June 14, 1955 in Darmstadt ) is a university professor for construction theory at the University of Bayreuth .

Life

Frank Rieg studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt . After working as a design engineer at Carl Schenck AG in Darmstadt, he returned to the Technical University of Darmstadt to the machine elements and design engineering department and wrote his doctoral thesis with the title of cost growth laws for series with Gerhard Pahl . This was followed by various managerial positions in industry at Ringspann and KTR, until he was appointed to the newly established professorship of Design and CAD at the University of Bayreuth in November 1998 .

Research priorities

As part of his research, he deals with the computer-aided design of machine elements . For this purpose he programmed his own program in 1986 called Z88 . Z88 is a free software package for the finite element method (FEM) in structural and continuum mechanics . There are now two different free versions of the software available for download, which are used in research and teaching as well as in industrial applications.

Prizes and awards

  • 2004: Prize for good teaching at the state universities in Bavaria, awarded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art.
