Frank Schlesinger
Frank Schlesinger (born May 11, 1871 in New York City , † July 10, 1943 ) was an American astronomer.
Schlesinger worked at the Yerkes Observatory and pioneered the use of photographic methods to determine star parallaxes .
He was director of the Allegheny Observatory from 1905 to 1920 and the Yale University Observatory from 1920 to 1941.
Schlesinger edited and published the Yale Bright Star Catalog .
He was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1912, the National Academy of Sciences in 1916, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1921 . In 1933 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences . Schlesinger was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1927 and the Bruce Medal in 1929 .
The asteroid (1770) Schlesinger is named after him.
