Frank Signorelli

Frank Signorelli (born May 24, 1901 in New York City , † December 9, 1975 there ) was an American jazz pianist and composer.

Signorelli accompanied the blues singer Tess Giardella in 1918 and worked with Nick LaRocca . In 1917 he was a founding member of the Original Memphis Five by Phil Napoleon and was briefly a member of the Original Dixieland Jass Band (ODJB) by LaRocca in 1921/2. Then he was back with the Original Memphis Five. In 1927 he played with Adrian Rollini in New York and in the late 1920s and early 1930s he played and recorded with Eddie Lang , Bix Beiderbecke , Joe Venuti and Red Nichols . From 1936 to 1938 he played with the newly united ODJB and in 1938 with Paul Whiteman . In 1946 he recorded with Phil Napoleon. He also played regularly in "Nick's" in New York with Bobby Hackett . In the late 1950s he helped set up a reunion of the Original Memphis Five and recorded with Miff Mole in 1958 . Only three recording sessions are known under his own name (1926, 1946 with Phil Napoleon, 1950 as accompanist to the singer Art Gentry).

Signorelli composed a. a. "A Blues Serenade" and was co-composer of "I'll never be the same" and "Stairway to the Stars".
