Frank Thiel (born March 12, 1952 in Nißma ) is a German politician of the Die Linke party .

Life and work

In 1970 Frank Thiel obtained his Abitur . He then worked as a skilled worker in mechanical engineering before he obtained his diploma as a physicist in 1974 . From 1974 to 1978 he was a research assistant at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , where he received the Dr. rer. nat. was awarded. From 1978 to 1989 he worked as a full-time employee and secretary in the FDJ and SED district leadership at Leipzig University. He was also a research assistant at the University of Leipzig from 1990 to 1991 before being unemployed for almost a year. He then continued his professional life from 1992 to 1994 as an IT system consultant and from 1994 to 1996 as branch manager of a Swiss IT company. He has been an independent entrepreneur since 1996.

He is married and has two children.

Political party

From 1971 to 1989 Thiel was a member of the SED. Since 1990 he has been a member of the PDS or, today, of the Die Linke party. From 1978 to 1980 he was secretary of the FDJ district leadership of Leipzig University. From 1981 to 1989 political employee of the SED district leadership at the University of Leipzig and from 1988 to 1989 secretary of the SED district leadership of Leipzig University. From 1990 he was then deputy chairman of the PDS district committee in Leipzig. Since 2002 he has been a member of the district executive of the PDS and the party Die Linke in Burgenlandkreis . From 2004 to 2006 he was also a member of the Burgenlandkreis district council.

MP

Since the beginning of the 4th electoral term (2002) he has been a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . Frank Thiel was parliamentary managing director of the PDS and the parliamentary group Die Linke since June 2004. He resigned from his position as Parliamentary Managing Director on January 25, 2014 with effect from February 1, 2014. Thiel is a member of the Committee of Economics and Labor and a member of the Council of Elders .
