Life

Wissenbach was discovered by Fritz Gretzschel at the age of 15 , was already a professional boxer at the age of 17 and initially competed with a special permit. He fought his first fight in May 1974. He won his first seven fights, at the end of May 1975 the Berlin-Tempelhof native Wissenbach lost for the first time when he was defeated by Peter Scheibner , whom he then defeated in a rematch in January 1976. In December 1976, the boxer coached by Werner Papke fought in Hamburg's Ernst-Merck-Halle against Jean-André Emmerich for the German championship title and won on points. The Hamburger Abendblatt then referred to Wissenbach as “perhaps the greatest talent in the German boxing scene”. He was one of the protégés of promoter Willy Zeller .

On May 7, 1977, Wissenbach challenged the British European champion Maurice Hope in Hamburg, but was clearly defeated on points as the main fighter in the "Box-Gala '77" organized by Wilfrid Schulz and broadcast by ARD . In November 1978, Wissenbach was German middleweight champion, defeating Frank Reiche in his hometown of Berlin . "His sure eye, the splendid reflexes, an extensive repertoire of strokes" would have given the defending champion "no real chance", was reported about Wissenbach's victory. For this he received a fee of 12,500 D-Marks.

In early December 1982 he fought in front of 10,000 spectators at the Paris Hippodrome de la Porte against the French Louis Acaries for the European middleweight title. Wissenbach, whose fight was rewarded with a purse of 80,000 D-Marks, was knocked out in the sixth round. He then stopped fighting as a professional boxer.
