The Frankfurt Dippemess , the largest and oldest Frankfurt folk festival , is known far beyond the region . It was first mentioned in writing in the 14th century. At that time, the Maamess ("Main Fair"), as it was called at the time, was a medieval market for household goods of all kinds. Potters from the Westerwald , Kannenbäckerland and Urberach sold their products here, especially their ceramic bowls and pots, in short Frankfurt Called "Dippe", which soon gave the event its name.

In the 1960s, the Dippemess from had to Frankfurt Römerberg on the fairground at Ratsweg beneath the Bornheimer slope to leave, since the rides of the fairground in Frankfurt's Old Town did not fit.

The Dippemess takes place twice a year - once in April for about three weeks as a spring Dippemess around Easter and once for about a week as an autumn Dippemess at the beginning of September - on the fairground on Ratsweg in front of the ice rink near the Ostpark . The Dippemess in spring is characterized by a colorful range of amusement rides, restaurants, shows and games. Traditional rides , such as a ghost train , as well as various running shops form the solid foundation of the Dippemess every year. An integral part of the folk festival is also a large marquee , in which, among other things, musical performances are offered. Since 2010 it has taken place in autumn as an event with a more familiar character and fewer rides.

The fairground at Ratsweg is above the subway station Eissporthalle the U7 the Frankfurt U-Bahn and a bus stop of the line 12 the Frankfurt tram to the public transport tethered.
