Frans II Francken
Frans Francken the Younger (* 1581 in Antwerp ; † May 6, 1642 ibid) was a Flemish painter and draftsman of the Baroque . He was the most famous and artistically gifted member of the Francken family of painters . He was initially a student of his father Frans I Francken , a student of Frans Floris . In 1605 he was acquitted as master. In 1614/15 he became dean of the Guild of Luke . His son Frans III Francken (1607–1667) was also a painter.
His oeuvre includes allegories cabinet images , history painting , genre scenes, still life , art pictures chamber ( Cabinet d'Amateur ), altar and picture galleries. Francken II is credited with establishing both the art chamber picture genre and the genre depictions with monkeys; both became popular in Flemish painting from then on. The accentuated star eyes of his figures are characteristic. He often repeats certain characteristics of his types.
