Frans Joseph Willem Gijzels (born November 24, 1911 in Sittard , Limburg province ; † April 23, 1977 in Heerlen , Limburg province) was a Dutch politician of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP).

Life

Frans Joseph Willem Gijzels, whose father Adrianus Gijzels was Mayor of Sittard , studied economics after attending school and was then secretary of a chamber of commerce . After the end of World War II , he was in 1945 Alderman ( Wethouder ) of Eindhoven and has held this post until 1961. He then took over on September 14, 1961 as successor to Gerard Veldkamp in Cabinet De Quay the post of Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism in the Ministry of Economic Affairs (State Secretary van Economische Zaken, laden met middenstand en toerisme) and held this position until July 24, 1963.

On July 2, 1963, Gijzels became a member of the Second Chamber of the States General (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal) for the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP) and was a member of this until September 1, 1964. He dissolved Charles van Rooy as Mayor of Heerlen on February 1, 1964 and held this office until December 1, 1976, after which Jan Reijnen became his successor. At the same time he was from June 2, 1966 to June 3, 1970 a member of the Provinciale Staten , the parliament of the Province of Limburg. For his many years of service he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Orange-Nassau and the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion .
