František Balvín (born November 7, 1915 in Nové Město na Moravě ; † October 20, 2003 ) was a Czechoslovak cross-country skier .

Career

Balvín, who started for Sokol Nové Město, was Czechoslovakian champion in 1937 with the team in Špindlerův Mlýn . In 1940 he repeated this success at the championships in Pustevny , where the team also included the Olympic bobsledder František Zajíček . At the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , he crossed the finish line in eleventh place over the 50 km individual distance. Together with Štefan Kovalčík , Jaroslav Zajíček and Jaroslav Cardal , he reached eighth place in the relay race over 4 × 10 km. Four years later at the Winter Olympics in 1952 in the Norwegian Oslo started Balvín only in the individual race over 50 kilometers and crossed the line in 21st.
