Franz Aigner (weightlifter)
Franz Aigner (born January 24, 1892 - January 21, 1970 ) was an Austrian weightlifter . He won the silver medal in the heavyweight pentathlon at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris .
Career
Franz Aigner grew up in Vienna and started lifting weights as a young man. But his career did not begin until after the end of the First World War. At that time he was already 27 years old and started for the German strength sports club "Eiche" Vienna . He later moved to the wage-workers Athlete Club Vienna .
As early as 1919 he was Austrian runner-up in the heavyweight division behind Heinrich Alscher from Vienna. In 1920 he was the first Austrian heavyweight champion. He reached 400 kg (75-80-105-140) in a four-way fight consisting of one-armed tearing, one-armed pushing, pushing with both arms and pushing with both arms and expelled Rudolf Schilberg from the athletes' club "Germania" Vienna, who came to 387.5 kg , to 2nd place. Franz Aigner finally achieved great success in 1924. He scored 515 kg (80-97.5-112.5-95-130) in the pentathlon at the Olympic Games in Paris that year and had to compete with the Italian Giuseppe Tonani , who came to 517.5 kg, just give up. He won the silver medal with it.
In the years 1925 to 1927 there were no world or European championships. Franz Aigner tried to qualify again for participation in the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 in the new Olympic three-way fight (pushing, tearing and pushing with both arms) . But at the Austrian Olympic elimination in Vienna at the end of 1928, with 335 kg, he only came third behind Rudolf Schilberg and Josef Leppelt and was not nominated for Amsterdam.
He then ended his career as a weightlifter.
