Franz Aspelmayr

Franz Aspelmayr (also: Aspelmeyr, Aspelmayer, Asplmayr, Appelmeyer ) (born April 2, 1728 in Linz , † July 29, 1786 in Vienna ) was an Austrian composer .

Life

The son of the dance master Johann Aspelmayer, received his first violin lessons from his father. In 1759 he got a job as a secretary and violinist in the court orchestra of Count Karl von Morzin, with Joseph Haydn as conductor . After the Morzin chapel was closed, Aspelmayr took over the position of ballet composer at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna between 1761 and 1763 as the successor to Christoph Willibald Gluck , which was then passed on to Florian Leopold Gassmann . After 1763 Aspelmayr remained connected to the theater as a violinist and composed other ballet music, partly in collaboration with the French dancer and choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre and his successor Gasparo Angiolini .

In the Viennese musical life of his time, he played a role as the creator of divertimenti , melodramas , ballets and singspiele .
