Location Fügen in the Zillertal, 2016

After attending school and participating in the Second World War, Binder founded his company in 1950. In 1957, the son of a mountain farmer bought a sawmill in Fügen . In the 1960s, Binder equipped the sawmill with a planing machine and wood drying system and so began to invest in the company's added value. Its sustainable management is emphasized. In 1979, both thighs were shattered by a tree trunk in an accident, which forced him to hand over the management to his sons. In 1984 a fire destroyed the sawmill in Fügen. It was rebuilt with the help of fire insurance . In 2020 Binderholz will be one of the leading companies in the wood industry in Europe . Wood products and biofuels are manufactured and sold worldwide at twelve locations, five in Austria, five in Germany and two in Finland.

Franz Binder competed in motorsport events in the 1950s and 1960s and won the 1st International Airfield Race in Klagenfurt in 1960 . Since Binder had built his first sawmill on the property of a church, he wanted to give something back to the church in his town. In the end, his son realized this wish with the construction of the new sacristan's house in Zell am Ziller . Binder was married and had three children, including the racing driver Hans Binder . He was buried in Zell am Ziller .
