Franz Breitwieser

Franz Breitwieser (born August 13, 1892 in Wels ; † October 7, 1954 ibid) was an Upper Austrian politician ( CS / ÖVP ) and lawyer . Breitwieser was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag from 1934 and 1945 to 1954, and from 1948 to 1954 he held the office of the Provincial Financial Council in the Upper Austrian Provincial Government .

education and profession

Breitwieser was born the son of a foreman and attended grammar school in his hometown Wels. Breitwieser passed his Matura at the Gymnasium Wels in 1911 and then studied law at the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck . There he became a member of the Catholic student union Austria Vienna and Austria Innsbruck . Breitwieser received his doctorate in law in Innsbruck in 1916 and then served as first lieutenant and battalion adjutant of a Kaiserschützen regiment on the Russian and Italian fronts during the First World War . After the end of the First World War, Breitwieser joined Dr. Salzmann moved into Wels and founded his own law firm in 1923. Breitwieser subsequently worked primarily as a legal advisor to commercial enterprises and financial institutions.

Politics and functions

After Josef Pfeneberger had to resign from politics as a cleric due to a resolution of the Bishops' Conference, Breitwieser moved up on February 26, 1934 as a representative of the Christian Social Party in the state parliament. Breitwieser belonged to the state parliament until October 31, 1934 and resigned when the state parliament was sworn in. After the Second World War, Breitwieser served as the provisional mayor of Wels in 1945, and on December 13, 1945 he returned to the state parliament for the Austrian People's Party . Breitwieser was a member of the state parliament until his death in 1954.

After the death of Provincial Councilor Franz Lorenzoni , Breitwieser was elected to the state government and took over the office of Provincial Councilor for Finance on June 18, 1948. He made a significant contribution to the economic development of Upper Austria, with great "negotiating skills, decisiveness, knowledge of human nature and humor" ascribed to him. Breitwieser exercised his office as regional councilor until his death.

In addition to his role as a politician, Breitwieser also held numerous functions in commercial enterprises. He was a member of the supervisory board of Oberösterreichische Kraftwerke AG , a member of the supervisory board of the Bank for Upper Austria and Salzburg, chairman and administrator of the Upper Austrian state fire damage insurance company, member of the board of trustees and supervisory commissioner of the state mortgage company and member of the Epple-Buxbaum-Werke Wels. Breitwieser also worked as a member of the supervisory board of the Wolfsegg-Traunthaler coal works company, was a member of the supervisory board of the Salzach-Kohlen-Bergbaugesellschaft and a member of the provincial board of trustees of the insurance company of the Austrian federal states.
