Franz Lorenzoni (born November 30, 1890 in Urfahr , † June 5, 1948 in Linz ) was an Upper Austrian politician ( CSP / ÖVP ) and state official. He was a member of the Upper Austrian State Parliament and Provincial Councilor or Deputy Governor in the Upper Austrian Provincial Government .

education and profession

After elementary school Lorenzoni attended the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster , where he passed the Matura in 1910 . He studied at the Faculty of Law in Prague between 1910 and 1912 and passed the state examination in law. In 1913 he moved to the University of Vienna , where he continued his law studies until 1914. Since 1913 he was a member of the Catholic student union K.Ö.St.V. Kürnberg Vienna. After his military service in the First World War, he continued his law studies at the University of Graz and obtained his doctorate in law in 1921. He was subsequently employed as an official of the Lieutenancy or in the Office of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government and worked between March 1920 and May 1920 as an assistant in the Urfahr district administration. He then worked as a concept intern between May 1920 and June 1921 and from July 1921 to November 1922 as a draftsman. In November 1922 he was promoted to district commissioner and in August 1926 to government commissioner, before he was appointed government chief commissioner in February 1927. In January 1930 he was finally appointed to the State Government Council and in July 1937 to the Upper Government Council. He worked under the rule of the National Socialists until March 23, 1941 as an official of the Reich Governor of Upper Danube and from June 27, 1940 was employed as a clerk in the Upper Insurance Office in Linz.

After the Second World War, Lorenzoni was appointed Councilor and on October 2, 1947, Real Councilor. He was chairman of the supervisory board of Oberösterreichische Kraftwerke AG, a member of the supervisory board of Wolfsegg-Traunthaler Kohlenwerk AG and a member of the supervisory board of Salzach-Kohlenbergbaugesellschaft.

Between July 2, 1925 and October 31, 1934, Lorenzoni was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag, where he represented the Christian Social Party. Before that, from 1922 he had already been involved as an employee in the agricultural workers and smallhouses association and from 1923 had been deputy chairman of the regional agricultural work council of the Upper Austrian provincial government and that year had also taken over the chairmanship of the Upper Austria Agricultural Health Insurance Fund. Lorenzoni was also president of the Upper Austrian Agricultural Workers Insurance Company, from 1933 a member of the Fatherland Front and from 1936 advisory board. He worked as a commissioner of the Landes-Hypothekenanstalt Oberösterreich and was a member of the provincial council from November 1, 1934 to March 12, 1938. In addition, from 1936 he became involved as a member of the Freedom League, whose leadership he took over. On November 1, 1934, he was sworn in as a provincial councilor in the Upper Austrian provincial government ( Gleißner II ) and subsequently headed the finance, provincial humanitarian as well as arts and education departments until April 23, 1938.

After the Second World War, Lorenzoni was a member of the civil servants' government appointed by the US occupation forces between May 17 and October 25, 1945 ( state government Eigl ). He initially headed the finance department, after the division of finances into state and state finances, he took over responsibility for state finances from June 2nd. On August 7th, after the establishment of the department with the designation “Housing and Repair Department”, he became “Authorized Representative for Reconstruction”.

On October 26, 1945, the Gleißner III state government, the first political state government appointed by the American occupying power, took over the agendas of the Eigl state government. Lorenzoni was appointed Deputy Governor of this government on October 26, 1945 and, as before the Second World War, took over the finance department. After the first state election in Upper Austria after the war, he was sworn in as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament on December 13, 1945 and remained part of the first elected state government Gleißner IV until his death as deputy governor or finance department head .

Within the party, he worked as a member of the ÖVP regional party executive in Upper Austria and was a member of the farmers' union. In addition, he was involved as a deputy chairman in the small housekeeping committee in the Upper Austrian Farmers' Union and was chairman of the advisory board of the Upper Austria fire damage insurance company.

He is buried at the St. Barbara Cemetery in Linz.
