Franz Christoph Joseph Imperial Baron von Rodt, Lord of Bußmannshausen-Orsenhausen and Walpertshofen (born March 24, 1671 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † March 21 or November 4, 1743 ibid) was an Austrian general and fortress commander of Breisach .

Life

Franz Christoph von Rodt came from a knightly nobility. He married on February 2, 1699 Maria Theresia Benedicte Reichsfreiin von Sickingen zu Hohenburg (* February 4 or 11, 1682, † November 9, 1756 in Konstanz), daughter of Franz Ferdinand von Sickingen zu Hohenburg. There were four sons from the marriage, Prince-Bishops of Konstanz, Franz Konrad von Rodt and Maximilian Christof von Rodt , and the generals Christian von Rodt and Anton Egbert von Rodt .

In 1709 he became a Swabian general sergeant (major general), in 1710 a field marshal lieutenant. On October 14, 1716 he was appointed Imperial Lieutenant Field Marshal and on March 15, 1734 General Feldzeugmeister. From 1728 he was the last in command of the Breisach Fortress.

The baroque grave monument of Franz Christoph von Rodt, created by Johann Christian Wentzinger , is attached to the south wall of the choir in the Freiburg Minster .
