Franz Dülberg (art historian)

Franz Dülberg (born May 6, 1873 in Berlin ; † May 21, 1934 there ) was a German art historian and author ( translator , non-fiction author , playwright ).

Life

Franz Dülberg attended the Royal Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin. From 1891 he studied art history at the University of Berlin , where he received his doctorate in 1899 . He then went on extensive travels, lived as a private scholar and author in Munich , and from 1913 back in Berlin. Among other things, he worked as an art correspondent for the Münchner Neuesten Nachrichten . In 1915 his neo-romantic drama Karinta von Orrelanden appeared . He translated non-fiction books and novels from Dutch , especially the works of Jo van Ammers-Küller , Hermann de Man (1898–1946) and Theun de Vries .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , Dülberg and 87 other writers signed a pledge of loyal allegiance to Adolf Hitler in October 1933 .

His translation of Jo van Ammers-Küller's trilogy of novels The Women of the Coornvelts achieved large editions and was reprinted in the 1950s. Dülberg is assigned to the circle around Stefan George .
