Not with consolation

In 2002 Franz Dodel began with his endless poem Not at Trost , an associative chain poem that is continued daily, enriched with detailed notes and images. The first 6000 lines of the poem appeared in three volumes in 2004 under the title Not at Trost - a never-ending Haiku and were awarded in 2004 in the competition “The most beautiful books in Switzerland”. Lines 6001 to 12000 were published in 2008 in one volume by Edition Korrespondenzen in Vienna. This was awarded the Austrian State Prize for “One of the Most Beautiful Books in Austria”. The following volumes were all published by Edition Korrespondenzen, Vienna.

The work interweaves u. a. again and again aspects from culture and science, which are identified in meticulous notes so that they can also be read as a compendium through cultural history. This constant forward writing (to be read as “work in progress” at www.franzdodel.ch) is also perceived as such for performative action and by the performing arts scene. All the source material used is also repeatedly realized as a conceptual exhibition together with the text. (Among other things, 2017 at the International Poetry Festival Berlin, where the entire text was read for 8 days; before that, the text and the sources had already been seen in this form in Linz, Graz, Bregenz, Langenthal and Bern.) Musical implementation was carried out by Katharina Weber (CH), and by Christoph Herndler (A) several times on the occasion of “Wien Modern”.
