Franz Elfried Wimmer

Franz Elfried Wimmer (born November 30, 1881 in Niederschrems , † May 2, 1961 in Vienna ) was an Austrian clergyman and botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " E. Wimm. "; earlier the abbreviation “ Wimmer ” was also in use.

Live and act

From 1905 to 1918 Wimmer was professor of natural history at St. George College in Istanbul. From 1918 to 1958 he was a priest in and near Vienna. Wimmer contributed to the work The Plant Kingdom by Adolf Engler, the treatise on "Campanulaceae-Lobelioideae" (1943 to 1953).

Honors

According to him, the plant genera Neowimmeria O.Deg. & I.Deg. and Wimmerella Serra, MBCrespo & Lammers from the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).
