Franz Grainer

Franz Grainer (born September 28, 1871 in Bad Reichenhall ; died February 17, 1948 in Munich ) was a royal Bavarian court photographer.

Act

Shortly after the turn of the century, Grainer created numerous portraits of the children of the last Crown Prince of Bavaria, Rupprecht , especially the firstborn Luitpold and the son Albrecht , who was the only one to reach adulthood. In 1919 he was one of the founding members of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Lichtbildner (GDL), the predecessor of the German Photographic Academy, which he later took over as chairman and still held when the National Socialists came to power .

In addition to portrait photographs , there was an increasing number of nude studies in the 1920s . Grainer trained Hans Siemssen , among others . Grainer's works can be found in the Folkwang Museum in Essen and in the Photo Museum in the Munich City Museum .
