Franz Gribel

Franz Gribel (born June 9, 1850 in Stettin , † December 22, 1943 in Stettin; full name Franz Eduard Gribel ) was a German shipowner . He had been the owner of the Rud shipping company since 1883 . Christian. Gribel and also a member of the supervisory boards of several companies.

Life

Franz Gribel came from an entrepreneurial family that had been based in Szczecin since 1767 . Rudolf Christian Gribel founded a wine shop in Stettin in 1773, from which the Rud. Christian. Gribel developed. Franz Gribel's father Eduard Gribel (* 1816; † 1856) was a teacher at the Friedrich Wilhelm School in Stettin.

Franz Gribel attended secondary school in Szczecin up to the secondary school leaving certificate and completed a commercial apprenticeship which also took him abroad. In 1880 he became a co-owner and in 1883 sole owner of the Rud shipping company. Christian. Gribel. Under his leadership, the company became one of the largest German shipping companies. In this context, he campaigned for the development of the Szczecin port and the expansion of the Stettin – Swinoujscie sea shipping route.

He was chairman of the supervisory board of the Pomeranian Provincial-Zuckersiederei AG , the Union AG for sea and river insurance and the Stettiner Dampfer-Compagnie AG . He was also deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Stoewer-Werke AG and a member of the supervisory board of the Schlesische Dampfer-Compagnie and the Stettiner Allgemeine Versicherungsgesellschaft, among others .

Gribel was head of the Szczecin Corporation of Merchants from 1900 until its dissolution in 1926.
