Franz Heiderich
Franz Heiderich (born October 25, 1863 in Vienna , † July 27, 1926 in Bad Gastein ) was an Austrian geographer.
Life
Franz Heiderich studied at the University of Vienna, where he received his dissertation in 1889. He then worked as a research assistant at the geographical-cartographic publisher Eduard Hölzel in Vienna. After teaching at various schools, he was appointed private lecturer at the Vienna Export Academy in 1905.
Heiderich made a living by transforming the Vienna Export Academy into the University of World Trade (today Vienna University of Economics and Business ). As an economic geographer, he was instrumental in establishing an institute for economic geography. In 1923/24 he was also the rector of the university and taught there until his death.
He edited Karl Andrees multi-volume geography of world trade 1910–1920 and wrote several country customers. From 1906 to 1926 Heiderich edited the Kozenn Atlas (41st edition 1906) and the multi-volume “Austrian School Geography for High Schools” (also with Ed. Hölzel, Vienna).
