Franz Karl Conradi (born February 2, 1701 in Reichenbach im Vogtland , † July 17, 1748 in Helmstedt ) was a German legal scholar. Sometimes there is also the spelling of the name Franz Carl Conradi.

Life

Born as the son of a commissioner and bailiff, he attended high school in Zwickau . In 1720 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig , where he initially devoted himself to philosophical studies and in 1722 acquired the academic degree of a master's degree. Then he concentrated on studying law.

In 1723 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer, and after receiving his doctorate in law at the University of Erfurt in 1725 , he received an extraordinary professorship at the University of Wittenberg in 1728 . In 1730 he was appointed full professor at the University of Helmstedt .

In Helmstedt he rose in the hierarchy of the law faculty, took over the office of a Brunswick-Lüneburg court councilor in 1743 and became a full professor at the law faculty in 1745. In his numerous academic writings, he has dealt primarily with Roman law . On German law he wrote several treatises on feudal law; he also published biographies of other legal scholars.

Conradi's lasting importance is based primarily on his collection of principles of German rights in proverbs . The narrow, one-sheet work is divided into three sections: first, proverbs that deal with rights in general, second, proverbs on the rights of persons, things, liabilities, crimes and trials, and third, proverbs on constitutional law, canon law and feudal law. The popular work was reprinted several times and inspired Conradi's student Johann Friedrich Eisenhart to expand and comment on the collection.
