Franz Kiggelaer

Franz Kiggelaer (baptized December 4, 1648 in Haarlem , † December 1722 in The Hague ) was a Dutch pharmacist and botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Kiggel. "

Life

Franz Kiggelaer was baptized on December 4, 1648. He was the son of Jan Krijgelaer (Kiggelaer) from The Hague and his wife Isabelle Cruyshoeck from Delft. Kiggelaer was the manager of Simon van Beaumont's garden in Leiden. In 1690 he published under the title Horti Beaumontiani: Exoticarum Plantarum Catalogus ... a list of plants in this garden.

Together with Frederik Ruysch , he completed the first volume of Jan Commelin's Horti medici Amstelodamensis rariorum , which appeared in 1697. Kiggelaer was buried in The Hague on December 22nd, 1722.

Honor taxon

Carl von Linné named the genus Kiggelaria of the plant family Achariaceae in his honor .
