Franz Kirchgatterer (born September 24, 1953 in Wels ; † November 21, 2017 in Grieskirchen ) was an Austrian businessman and politician ( SPÖ ). From 2006 to November 8, 2017 he was a member of the National Council .

education and profession

Franz Kirchgatterer attended primary school from 1960 to 1964 and then secondary school until 1968. He then graduated from business school until 1971 and did his military service.

Kirchgatterer worked as a commercial clerk from 1971 to 1979 and was a self-employed businessman from 1979. In 1992 he was appointed to the Commercial Council.

politics

Kirchgatterer was a member of the municipal council of the city of Wels from 1991 to 2006 and later continued to be active in Wels city politics and in various business associations. From 2001 he was section chairman of the SPÖ Wels-Pernau and from 1987 district chairman of the Social Democratic Economic Association Wels, Grieskirchen, Eferding. In 1992 he was elected deputy regional chairman of the Upper Austrian Social Democratic Economic Association, and from 1990 he represented the SPÖ in the economic parliament of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce . From 2005 onwards, Kirchgatterer was also a member of the Bundessparenkonferenz of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

Kirchgatterer was from October 30, 2006 a member of the National Council and in the XXIII. Legislative period Member of the committees for budget, for research, innovation and technology, for human rights and for business and industry.

In the 2017 National Council election on October 15, he no longer stood as a candidate , Petra Wimmer took over the mandate in the Hausruckviertel regional constituency . He died of cancer on November 21, 2017 at the age of 64.
