Franz Ludwig Bösigk

Franz Ludwig (Louis) Bösigk (born June 13, 1830 in Dresden ; † September 30, 1880 there ) was a German librarian and author.

Life

He was the son of Johann Aenotheus Bösigk and his wife Caroline Friderike nee Ehrhardt. After attending the Kreuzschule in Dresden, he went to the University of Leipzig to study theology and philosophy . After the change to the Berlin University he obtained his doctorate in 1854 with a dissertation on De Baetyliis to Dr. phil.

Since he did not get a permanent job at first, he worked as a volunteer at the Royal Public Library in Dresden, where he became second secretary in 1855. Two years later he got a permanent position as a library assistant. In 1861 Bösigk was appointed secretary and in 1877 librarian. He died three years later.

Bösigk was a member of the Saxon Antiquities Association and an active singer in the Dresden Liedertafel .
