Franz Metzger (historian)

Franz Metzger (born July 28, 1948 in Nuremberg ) is a German historian and publicist .

After graduating from the Willstätter Gymnasium in Nuremberg, he studied history as well as art history , English and American studies at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen . The postgraduate studies took place under Kurt Kluxen and Geoffrey Elton . Franz Metzger was doing research in London and Cambridge. In 1977 he wrote a dissertation on "The English Chancellery Court under Cardinal Wolsey 1515-1529". In 1977/78 he worked as a press officer for the Catholic City Church in Nuremberg.

In 1979 he developed and founded the general-interest magazine G / Geschichte (at that time still under the name affix "with a whistle") for the Johann Michael Sailer Verlag in Nuremberg. Until 2009 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine. Since then he has been its editor.
