Franz Novotny (composer)

Franz Novotny (* 1748 ; † November 5, 1806 in Pécs ( German  Fünfkirchen ), Austrian Empire , today Hungary ) was a Romanian-German church musician and composer .

Little is known about Novotny's living conditions. He was a pupil of Leopold Koželuh and is called in 1802 as the Regens Chori at the Cathedral in Pécs , where he worked until his death. His successor was Johann Georg Lickl . In addition to church music, including 20 masses, a funeral mass , several graduals , settings of the Veni sanctus spiritus and a Te Deum , Novotny also received two symphonies (in E flat major and D major).
