Johann Georg Lickl

Hans-Georg Lickl (also Ligkl) (born April 11, 1769 in Korneuburg , Lower Austria ; † May 12, 1843 in Pécs (Fünfkirchen), Kingdom of Hungary ) was an Austrian composer .

Live and act

In his hometown Lickl received singing, piano and organ lessons as a choirboy from the rain choir Sebastian Witzig. In 1785 he settled in Vienna, where he met Johann Georg Albrechtsberger and Joseph Haydn . At the end of the 1780s he became organist at the Carmelite Church in Leopoldstadt. In cooperation with Emanuel Schikaneder and others, several Singspiele were created for the Theater auf der Wieden .

In 1806 he was appointed Kapellmeister of the Cathedral of Fünfkirchen, where he turned to ecclesiastical composition.

The composer, who died in 1843, published numerous piano and chamber music works during his lifetime, among others with Haslinger and Joseph Eder in Vienna, with Johann Anton André in Offenbach and with Johann Carl Gombart in Augsburg. His sons Karl Georg and Aegid Karl were also composers.
