Franz Pöchhacker

Franz Pöchhacker (* 1962 in Rosenau, Lower Austria ) is an Austrian interpreter and associate professor for interpreting at the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna .

Life

Pöchhacker studied conference interpreting at the University of Vienna from 1982 to 1987 and at the Monterey Institute of International Studies from 1987 to 1988 , where he also began teaching. He has been working as a freelance conference interpreter since 1988 and as a media interpreter since 1994. After receiving his doctorate in 1993 on the subject of simultaneous interpreting , Pöchhacker dealt with other issues relating to the science of interpreting, especially in the area of community interpreting . As part of his academic work, Pöchhacker published several monographs and numerous essays on various aspects of the science of interpreting.
