Franz Quadlbauer

Franz Quadlbauer (born June 24, 1924 in Sankt Florian near Linz, † January 28, 2009 in Seekirchen am Wallersee ) was an Austrian classical philologist .

Life

Franz Quadlbauer received his doctorate in Graz in 1949 with the dissertation Pliny the Younger and the concept of sublime speech . From 1963 to 1967 he worked on the recommendation of Albin Lesky as a research assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich. During these years he completed his habilitation in Salzburg in 1966 . In 1967 he was appointed editor of the thesaurus.

In 1970 Quadlbauer was appointed full professor at the University of Kiel . Here he worked in teaching and research until his retirement in 1991. Until his death in 2009 he lived in Seekirchen near Salzburg, where he temporarily worked as a university lecturer.

Quadlbauer's research focus was ancient rhetoric. From 1982 to 1987 he was co-editor of the magazine Rhetorica .
