Georg Spitzlberger

Georg Spitzlberger (born February 2, 1931 in Landshut ) is a German historian and archaeologist. He is mainly concerned with the Bavarian history of all epochs.

Life

Georg Spitzlberger studied history and archeology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and then worked as a secondary school teacher. From 1965 to 1970 he worked as a research assistant at the Department of Ancient History at the University of Munich. On 13 January 1969 he was there with the dissertation The Roman brick temple in the northern part of the province Raetia Dr. phil. PhD . From 1971 he was director of the city ​​and district museum and city archivist in Landshut . At the same time, he continued to teach at the University of Munich and at the Landshut University of Applied Sciences . In 1971 he was also appointed honorary professor at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences , where he also held teaching positions.

Spitzlberger's research extends to Roman provincial history, Bavarian history since prehistory and early history, epigraphy , palaeobotany as well as Latin and Romance languages . He published numerous writings on history on Bavarian soil, especially on Roman provincial finds. In 2008 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon .
