Franz Schönfellner

Franz Schönfellner (born November 24, 1955 in Krems an der Donau , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian historian .

Life

Franz Schönfellner was born in Krems an der Donau, where he attended the Piarist grammar school. He studied history with Heinrich Lutz and Karl Gutkas at the University of Vienna .

From 1982 to 1992 he worked for the Austrian State Archives , Department of Finance and Court Chamber Archives .

From 1992 to 2017 he worked in the cultural office of the city of Krems an der Donau. From 1993 he headed the Museum of the City of Krems, which was one of the first in Austria to receive the Austrian Museum Seal of Approval. Among other things, he designed and accompanied the general renovation of the Dominican monastery in Krems for the museum in the years 1994–1996 and the subsequent revitalization measures up to 2016. This also included the spatial integration and adaptation of the Krems city library and media center as well as the reorganization of the Krems city archive in 2007/2008. In 2006 he edited the city of Krems' cultural development plan. From 2005 he was head of the cultural office of the city of Krems, from 2007 to 2017 head of area 2 of the city council of Krems. In 2012 he designed and realized the new Krems Museum in the Dominican Monastery. From 1996 to 2012 he directed the Wachaufilmfestival.

From 2001 to 2008 he was also a member of the board of Wachauer Messe AG, later: Agency Krems. Among other things, he is a board member of the Wachau working group and a member of the Austrian Museum Association.

Lectures at the Volkshochschule Krems and at home and abroad on cultural-scientific topics mark his path as a cultural historian in addition to various publications and his participation in exhibitions.

He is married and has two children.
