history

In 1232 a schoolmaster was first mentioned in a document in Krems . The oldest surviving school regulations of the Latin school at that time date from 1305. In 1579 the five-class Latin city school was designated as a grammar school. In 1616 a six-class grammar school was opened by the Jesuits . The current school building was completed in 1694. In 1776 the Piarists took over the Jesuit grammar school and relocated their convent from St. Pölten to Krems an der Donau. 1802–1849 the school was run as a philosophical educational institution. In 1867 the school building was expanded. In 1871 the Piarist high school was converted into a state high school with an eight-year training period. In 1975 the high school building was completely renovated. An extension made space for new classes in an annex, and two new gyms were built. In 1997 the top floor was expanded, which made space for IT rooms, a theater and a library. In 2011 the gymnasiums were completely renovated.
