Helmut Engelbrecht

Helmut Engelbrecht (born November 13, 1924 in Ysper ; † November 23, 2014 in Krems an der Donau ) was an Austrian pedagogue and educational historian .

Live and act

Helmut Engelbrecht was born the son of a gendarmerie officer. He attended the Piarist high school in Krems and was then three years in the German armed forces and then briefly in American captivity. From 1945 he studied history , German and philosophy at the University of Vienna and graduated after three years with a teaching certificate. In 1948 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The Austrian employees of the historical-political papers between 1867 and the end of the century.

Helmut Engelbrecht taught as a high school teacher at various schools in Lower Austria . From 1970 to 1989 he was the director of the Piarist High School in Krems, where he initiated the major renovation and expansion. At the same time, he has made a contribution to the history of the Austrian education system. At the University of Vienna he worked as a lecturer from 1967 and as an honorary professor from 1987, where he held the lecture "History of Austrian Education", which is mandatory for prospective high school teachers. A total of 150 publications on the historiography of education appeared under his name.

Helmut Engelbrecht was married, father of 3 children and grandfather of 7 grandchildren.
