Life
Erwin H. Rainalter was the son of an Austrian official who worked for the Austrian Levantepost in Saloniki . Erwin H. Rainalter grew up in Saloniki and attended school there; later he was a student at the Piaristengymnasium Krems with Eduard Kranner , where he passed his school leaving examination. He then studied German and Romance languages as a working student at the University of Vienna for a few semesters . For economic reasons, he was forced this study cancel . He worked temporarily as a typist in a law firm and then switched to journalism . Rainalter provided articles for the feature pages of "Wiener Mittags", the " Salzburger Volksblatt " (1918 to 1923) and the " Neue Freie Presse ".
Later Erwin H. Rainalter was based in Berlin . After he had already emerged in the 1920s as a supporter of a “ Greater German solution ” in the relationship between the German Reich and Austria, he resigned from the Austrian PEN Club in 1933 and was one of the founders of the National Socialist “ Ring of National Writer ”. Rainalter wrote theater reviews for the “ Völkischer Beobachter ” and the “ Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger ”. After Austria's annexation to the German Reich in March 1938, which he welcomed enthusiastically, he returned to Vienna, where he lived as a freelance writer. From 1938 to 1939 he was editor-in-chief of the “ Neue Wiener Tagblatt ”.
In addition to his journalistic work, Erwin H. Rainalter was the author of novels , stories and poems . His narrative works are often set in Tyrol or deal with topics from Austrian history .
