Julius Sylvester (born June 30, 1854 in Vienna , † July 13, 1944 in Seekirchen am Wallersee ) was an Austrian lawyer and anti-Semitic politician .

Life

Sylvester studied law at the University of Vienna . In 1874 he became a member of the Teutonia Vienna fraternity and in 1881 a member of the Libertas Vienna fraternity. Later established as Sylvester Old Mr. in the 1880s and 1890s, the Teutonia as anti-Semitic connection.

In 1877 he received his doctorate. iur. and worked as a lawyer in Salzburg from 1884 . Since moving to the city, Sylvester has gradually made it the center of Georg von Schönerer's anti-Semitic ideology . Later he became chairman of the Germanic League and the Kyffhäuserbund . In 1892 he acquired the Zeller Schlösschen in Seekirchen am Wallersee not far from Salzburg. In 1896/1897 he was Vice Mayor of the City of Salzburg. At that time, from 1894 to 1898, Gustav Zeller was mayor of the city. From 1897 to 1918 Sylvester was a member of the German progressive party in the House of Representatives of the Reichsrat , in the XXI. Session from the Reichsrat election in 1911 to the adjournment in March 1914 President of the House of Representatives.

As a German MP, Sylvester was a member of the Provisional National Assembly for German Austria in 1918/1919 and was appointed by the latter to be the state notary of the new state (abolished on March 14, 1919) , who had to certify legislative resolutions. In 1919 Sylvester was appointed a member of the newly created Constitutional Court.

From 1915 to 1922 Sylvester was President of the International Mozarteum Foundation .

Julius Sylvester died in 1944 in his little castle in Seekirchen am Wallersee and was buried there.
