Franz Lorenz

Franz Lorenz (born April 4, 1803 in Stein an der Donau near Krems , † April 8, 1883 in Wiener Neustadt ) was an Austrian doctor and writer .

Life

Lorenz attended the Piaristengymnasium Krems from 1815 to 1822 and from 1822 studied philology , art history and medicine at the University of Vienna . After receiving his doctorate in 1831 as Dr. med. he worked as a doctor in various places in Lower Austria and undertook a trip through southern and western Europe in the mid-1840s. In 1847 he settled in Wiener Neustadt.

He had extensive knowledge of literature, music, geology and topography of his closer homeland and organized nature and art historical hikes as well as house music evenings.

His anonymously published book In Dinge Mozart ’s (1851) inspired Ludwig von Köchel , who was three years older than him and also from Stein an der Donau, to write his Mozart catalog raisonné . In addition, Lorenz collected memories of Beethoven's last stay in the country in Gneixendorf near Krems .
