Wolfgang Schlichtinger (also Karl Borromäus Schlichtinger ) (born August 9, 1745 in Altpölla , † December 23, 1830 in Zalaapáti in Zala County ) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman.

Life

Wolfgang Schlichtinger was born the son of a shoemaker and village judge.

After attending the Jesuit high school (today: Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Krems ) in Krems , he professed in Göttweig Abbey in 1765 and studied philosophy and theology with the Benedictines in Göttweig Abbey and at the University of Vienna until his Baccalaureate degree in 1768 .

After his ordination and primacy in 1770, he taught speculative theology at the Göttweiger Hauslehranstalt and held the post of curator from 1771 to 1777 . In 1778 he became a cooperator in Mautern an der Donau .

In 1780 he began as court master at the Göttweiger Hof (free court ) in Vienna and in 1785 went to Pfaffendorf as parish vicar . From 1790 he worked in Mühlbach am Manhartsberg . In 1797 he became prior under Abbot Anselm Feldhorn (1738–1798) and in 1806 senior; During this time he was sent in 1801 as abbot to the St. Adrian Abbey in Zalaapáti, which had been moved there from Zalavár in 1775 . In 1802 he was ordained as abbot. His activity there was characterized by the efforts of the Hungarian monastery to become independent from the Göttweiger motherhouse, and he opposed these efforts by the Hungarian National Assembly. Tactically in the organizational and legal conflict, he managed to get Zalavár the market rights . Only after his death did Zalaapáti achieve final independence from Göttweig.
