Johann Holetschek

Johann Holetschek (born August 29, 1846 in Thuma , Lower Austria , † November 10, 1923 in Vienna ) was an Austrian astronomer .

Holetschek studied astronomy at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1872. He then became an assistant at the old university observatory and in 1878 an adjunct . His main interest lay in the exploration and determination of the orbit of comets and the determination of the brightness of nebulae and star clusters.

A moon crater and the Holetschekgasse in Vienna are named after Johann Holetschek .
