Franz Schicker

Franz Schicker (* 1915 in Vöcklabruck or Regau ; † February 18, 2010 ) was an Austrian painter , draftsman , art educator and art mediator . In 1946 he advocated the re-establishment of the Salzkammergut Artists' Guild after the Second World War and was its president from 1955 to 1978 and honorary president since 1980.

Live and act

The artist, who comes from Rutzenmoos , studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna at Lardin from 1936 to 1942 and, as a realist influenced by Cubism , became a leading pioneer of modernism in the Salzkammergut , where he worked as a teacher at several schools and numerous, often created monumental commissioned works in public space.

At the head of the Salzkammergut Artists' Guild, he arranged traveling exhibitions for guild members in the Salzkammergut, and organized exchange exhibitions with art associations in Austria and Bavaria. He was the driving force behind the renovation of the historic Kammerhof building in Gmunden , whereby the Kammhofgalerie, which was illuminated through the roof, was created as a permanent exhibition site for the guild.

In his era, a printing workshop was set up in Gmunden as a place of work, training and meeting point for artists.

He was u. a. Member of the Upper Austrian Art Association and the Professional Association of Visual Artists Upper Austria .
