Franz Schreiber (born May 8, 1904 in Dresden , † February 26, 1976 in Hamburg ) was a German SS standard leader during the Second World War .

Life

Schreiber was a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 1.934.152) and the SS (membership number 281.906). Schreiber received his first military experience with the SS disposable troops . During the western campaign he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on May 27, 1940 . This was followed by the Iron Cross 1st Class on August 20, 1940. On May 30, 1942, he was appointed regimental commander of the SS-Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 12 . There he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on December 26, 1944 . In January 1945 he took part in the last German offensive, the company Nordwind . In April 1945 he was appointed commander of the 6th SS Mountain Division "North" , which surrendered to the American troops on April 2, 1945 under interim commander Brenner .

After the end of the war in 1969, Schreiber was the author of a pamphlet entitled Battle under the Northern Lights. German-Finnish brotherhood in arms at the Arctic Circle to division. According to Klemp, it glorifies the division's role, hushes up the actions of its commanders, and does not truthfully portray the withdrawal of German troops from Lapland.
