Franz Schwabeneder

Franz Schwabeneder (* 1942 in Linz ) is an Austrian journalist , director and art sponsor.

From 1964 to 2003 he worked as a journalist for the Upper Austrian News , where he was head of the culture and media department from 1973. He worked on book projects (including “The Ars Electronica - Art in Time Jump”, “Promenade 39 - The Landestheater Linz 1803 - 2003”) and cultural publications. He made the main contributions to the application for European Capital of Culture "Linz 2009".

Franz Schwabeneder also wrote a play himself, "The Electric Grandmother". This is a Ray Bradbury play for people seven years and older . Its world premiere took place on June 22nd, 2006 and Randolf Destaller, Gabriele Deutsch , Thomas Pohl, Christian Scharrer, Waltraud Starck played under the direction of Schwabeneder himself as part of the SCHÄXPIR 2006 international theater festival . It was a production by the Phönix Theater in cooperation with the Ars Electronica Futurelab.

The renowned cultural journalist is a member of the city's cultural advisory board and is working on the cultural development plan as well as on the ongoing future project “Linz 21”.

On May 26, 2003 he received the cultural medal of the city of Linz from the mayor of Linz, Franz Dobusch .
