Franz Josef Siller , mostly shortened to Franz Siller (born March 29, 1893 in Vienna ; † January 31, 1924 there ) was a pioneer of the Vienna allotment garden movement .

In January 1916, Siller became head of the newly established municipal allotment garden. As early as the First World War, Siller's efforts made it possible to provide unused grounds for planting war vegetable gardens , provide feed for the small animals and provide barracks for the construction of shelters. After the end of the war, Siller's lecture “From the allotment garden to the garden settlement” attracted a lot of attention. As an official of the Vienna municipality, Siller organized the Vienna allotment garden, settlement and housing exhibition in the Vienna City Hall in September 1923 . Garden inspector Siller was head of the allotment garden office of the City of Vienna, and, after its outsourcing in a private legal form, director of the allotment garden office of the City of Vienna Ges.mbH

The president of the Association of Allotment Gardeners, Settlers and Small Animal Breeders' Associations in Austria , who died young from a heart condition, played a leading role in the organization of the allotment garden movement in starving Vienna after 1918. After his death, a Franz Siller Fund was created to grant emergency loans for allotment gardeners .

Several traffic areas were named after Siller, usually in the vicinity of allotment gardens and settler colonies: Sillerweg in the 2nd district, Franz-Siller-Weg in the 12th district, Sillergasse and Sillerplatz in the Auhofer Trennstück settlement founded by Franz Siller in the 13th district, further the Sillerstraße in Neustift am Walde in the 19th district and a Franz Sillergasse in Essling in the 22nd district. Memorial stones dedicated to Franz Siller can be found in the garden of the "Zukunft" shelter on the Schmelz and in Sonnenbadgasse in Währing . Siller is buried in an honorary grave at the Neustift cemetery .
