Franz Ströbele (born September 10, 1879 in Ochsenhausen , Kr.Biberach / Riß , † September 28, 1952 in Stuttgart ) was a German farmer. From 1947 until his death he was president of the farmers' association Württemberg-Baden .

Career

Ströbele was born the son of a landowner. After attending the Latin school in Biberach , he switched to the high school in Ravensburg , which he graduated with the final exam. He then acquired practical agricultural training in his parents' business and two other farms in Württemberg. He continued his training at the Agricultural University in Hohenheim, where he passed the exam to become a qualified farmer in 1903.

This was followed by a brief activity as an assistant at an agricultural school in Alsace. In 1904 he started teaching at the agricultural school in Ulm and from 1907 until he was called up for military service in July 1916 he was the head of the agricultural school in Leonberg. After returning home, he was managing director of the meat supply center in Württemberg-Hohenzollern, which was set up during the First World War, until it was dissolved in 1920. From July 1920 to July 1922 he worked in the rank of government councilor as a consultant for agriculture at the Central Office for Agriculture in Stuttgart.

In 1922 he switched to the chemical company BASF in Ludwigshafen, where he worked for more than 23 years as an organizer of all agricultural testing and consulting, especially in the field of fertilization. He was head of the Limburgerhof research station and looked after other farms in the company. After his retirement, he managed the Daummühle estate near Oberflockenbach in the Odenwald, which he had acquired in 1932. When his age no longer allowed him to run the business, he leased the property and moved to Stuttgart in 1951.

When in 1947, after the collapse of the Third Reich, a professional organization for farmers was to be founded again in Württemberg-Baden, the choice of the first president fell on Ströbele, who was considered a pioneer of agricultural progress due to his work in the agricultural industry. In his office he made contacts with numerous agricultural associations and institutions in Germany and Europe and was also a member of the German Agricultural Society and the Agricultural Research Council. In 1950 he was confirmed in office. When the formation of a south-western state became apparent, he was one of the strong advocates of a joint farmers' association for Baden-Württemberg.

The final year of the presidency was marred by his deteriorating health. At the general meeting of the Württemberg-Baden farmers' association in the spring of 1952, he announced the imminent resignation from his offices. After a hospital stay in August, he was tied to his bed and therefore asked the district chairmen of the association in writing on September 24, 1952, to release him from his position. Four days later, Ströbele died in his home in Stuttgart-Sonnefeld at the age of 73.

In his capacity as association president, he was a member of the presidium of the German farmers' association , the administrative board of the Württembergische Landeszentralbank , the regional transport advisory board and the broadcasting council of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk .

Franz Ströbele was the father of Rudolf Ströbele and the grandfather of Hans Christian Ströbele .
