Franz Strasser (* 1899 , † 10. December 1945 in Landsberg am Lech ) was an Austrian-German NSDAP - district leader , who because of a flier murder of a US military court sentenced to death and executed was.

Murder of prisoners

On December 9, 1944, Franz Strasser killed two out of a group of five American airmen whose plane had made an emergency landing near Zartlesdorf ( Kaplitz district , now the Czech Republic ). A captain Lindemeyer, who later committed suicide , is said to be directly responsible for the deaths of the other three . According to the judgment, it can be assumed that the initiative for the act originally came from Lindemeyer.

All five pilots had surrendered beforehand and were already on their way to Kaplitz by truck . Franz Strasser drove ahead of the truck with several people in the car. Captain Lindemeyer followed the truck with a vehicle that was driven by a driver. Strasser stopped the convoy on a hill outside Kaplitz. When Strasser approached the truck, shots were fired. Strasser admitted killing an American or two. Franz Strasser killed the men with a Thompson submachine gun .

Trial and death

Strasser was on trial on October 22, 1945. He was found guilty and put to death by hanging in War Criminals Prison No. 1 convicted in Landsberg am Lech .

He was hanged on December 10, 1945.
