Franz Treller became famous for his adventure novels in the style of Karl May , which were widely read until the 1960s.

At first Treller wrote historical adventure novels, often for a young audience, the plot of which was often related to the history of his Hessian homeland. So he treated z. B. in Forgotten Heroes the fate of Hessian soldiers during the American Revolutionary War . More important, however, were his youth novels and youth stories, which were mostly preprinted in the popular boys' magazine Der Gute Kamerad or in the yearbook Das Neue Universum and later found wide distribution in numerous book editions. With the publications in Der Gute Kamerad Treller entered into direct competition with Karl May, who also published youth stories here.
