Franz Wilhelm von Öttingen

Franz Wilhelm Reichsgraf von Öttingen (born September 8, 1725 , † January 14, 1798 ) was provost in Cologne and canon in Münster .

Life

Franz Wilhelm Graf von Öttingen-Baldern came from the Franconian and Swabian noble family von Oettingen . He was the son of the ruling Count Kraft Anton Wilhelm Count von Baldern and Soetern and his wife Johanna Eleonore Marie Countess von Schönborn-Buchheim . In 1745 Franz Wilhelm received a cathedral priest in Cologne , where he resided from 1749. By papal approval he came into the possession of a Münster prebende at the beginning of 1763 and was sworn up here on November 21 of that year . On March 21, 1765 he renounced in favor of Canon Johann Hugo von dem Bongard zu Paffendorf . In Cologne he was elected choir bishop on January 24th, 1764, resigned this office on May 19th, 1767 when he was elected cathedral dean .

On February 13, 1786, the cathedral chapter elected him provost. From 1753 to 1763 Franz Wilhelm was provost of the St. Georgenstift in Limburg. In the knight monastery Wimpfen he was given a trial on May 4, 1751 , but gave up before 1769. In 1778, after the death of his older brother, he took over the government of Öttingen-Baldern-Soetern. With his death in 1798, this line of the Counts Oettingen died out.
