Franz Wittmann junior (born October 27, 1983 in Vienna ) is an Austrian rally driver .

Career

Franz Wittmann junior, son of the Austrian twelve-time national rally champion Franz Wittmann , made his debut in professional rallying in 2003 in the European Rally Championship scoring Waldviertel rally . He finished this with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo in Group N in 13th place overall. The following year he competed in the Rally Sweden for the first time in a run of the World Rally Championship . This was followed by individual participation in races at the Austrian State Rally Championship , in which he achieved his first podium finish in 2006 at the Lavanttal Rally with third place. At the beginning of the 2007 season, Wittmann was on the podium three times. After finishing third in the January rally , he finished second in the Lavanttal rally that followed. A short time later, he celebrated his first overall victory at the Bosch Super plus rally . In 2008 Wittmann achieved two third places in the Bosch Super plus rally and the BP Ultimate rally as well as a second place in the season finale, the OMV Rallye Waldviertel.

In 2009 Wittmann switched to the international stage in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge . With the Interwetten Racing team, he scored seven championship points, finishing sixth in Portugal and fifth in Russia. With new equipment, a Peugeot 207 from the Super 2000 category , Wittmann returned to the Waldviertel rally in the Austrian State Rally Championship. In second place, he only had to admit defeat by a few seconds. In the 2010 season, Wittmann contests his second year in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge with his Peugeot 207. Again in the Interwetten Racing Team and with the German co-driver Klaus Wicha he recorded 3 retirements (Monte Carlo, Gran Canaria and Sardinia Rally) and an 11th place in the Barum Rally. Outside of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the ADAC Hessen Vogelsberg Rally could be won, and Wittmann and Wicha finished 17th in a rally world championship start at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. Witmann contested another Intercontinental Rally Challenge run with the German co - driver Josefine Beinke at the Cyprus Rally. However, there they were also eliminated.
