The Franziskuskirche on the Seiser Alm

The Franziskuskirche is the Roman Catholic church on the Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol . It belongs to the parish of the holy apostles Peter and Paul in Castelrotto and thus to the deanery Klausen-Kastelruth of the diocese of Bozen-Brixen .

history

For a long time, many hikers and skiers only had the option of taking part in a mass celebration in certain hotels in Compatsch or outdoors in summer on Europe's largest plateau. There is also the Zallinger Church (Marienkapelle), consecrated in 1858, on the edge of the Alm near the Plattkofel . There were and are still held there in the summer months. Since the 1960s there have been plans to build a large church on the mountain pasture that would suit the expected church visitors. In 2007, according to plans by Walter Dietl from Schlanders in Vinschgau, the construction of the Franziskuskirche next to the fire station in Kompatsch began. The solemn consecration of the church took place on September 20, 2009 by the bishop of the diocese of Bozen-Brixen Karl Golser .

The church and the interior of the church

The walls and roof of the east-facing church are made of larch wood . The main room depicts the body of a pigeon. The entrances from the west and east are reminiscent of spread wings. The tower, also made of larch wood, shows the pigeon's beak. The entrance from the west leads to an anteroom with an old wayside cross from the Alpe di Siusi. Access from the east is barrier-free. The niches there in the wall show texts and pictures of the Canticle of St. Francis . Pictures of the Way of the Cross can be seen there during the Easter penance. In the northwest anteroom is a simple statue of Francis with a dove.

The oval-shaped church interior emphasizes the altar area made of fine concrete with the ambo and the tabernacle . A wooden figure of Our Lady with the baby Jesus stands in the right-hand chancel.

The blue colored windows behind the altar shine brightly in the sunshine. The glass wall in the west provides a view of the outside.

Animal tracks on the porphyry floor lead into the church to the altar area. From the east entrance there are deer tracks, from the back door of the sacristy a wolf track leads to the ambo. Traces of birds can still be seen on the lectern itself.

Twelve crosses on the side walls commemorate the twelve apostles.

A stone staircase leads to the gallery in the west.

The name of the church is written in the three South Tyrolean languages on the outside wall facing the street. In Ladin it is called “Dlieja de san Francesch”, in Italian “Chiesa di san Francesco” and in German “Church of St. Francis”.

Bells

The three bells of the church tower have the tones b ', c' 'and d' '. They were cast in the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck
