Karl Golser (born May 16, 1943 in Tscherms , South Tyrol , Italy ; † December 25, 2016 in Brixen ) was a Roman Catholic moral theologian and from 2008 to 2011 bishop of the diocese of Bozen-Brixen .

Life

Karl Golser studied from 1961 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome Catholic theology and philosophy . On October 10, 1968, Golser was ordained a priest in Rome . Golser was initially a cooperator in Kaltern , later in St. Nikolaus in Meran . In 1974 he was at the Gregoriana with the dissertation conscience and objective morality. On the concept of conscience in modern Catholic moral theology for Dr. theol. PhD . From 1977 to 1982 he worked for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . 1982 Karl Golser received a call to the professor of moral theology at the philosophical-theological university Brixen , which he presided least as Vice Dean. Before that, Golser was dean of the university twice .

After several years as curate and later as pastor of Sarns (1982–1991), Golser was canon of penance at Bressanone Cathedral in 1991 . From 1994 (foundation) to 2008 he was director of the Institute for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, and in 1997 he was appointed chaplain of the Bolzano / South Tyrol delegation of the Sovereign Order of Malta . From 2001 until his episcopal ordination, Golser was the commissioner for study questions for priests and lay people studying theology. In 2006 Golser was elected President of the Associazione Teologica Italiana per lo Studio della Morale (ATISM).

On December 5, 2008 Golser was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed bishop of the South Tyrolean diocese of Bozen-Brixen . He thus succeeded Bishop Wilhelm Egger OFMCap, who died on August 16, 2008 . The patriarch of Venice , Angelo Cardinal Scola , donated him the episcopal ordination on March 8, 2009 in the Cathedral of Bressanone. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Trento , Luigi Bressan , and the Bishop of Innsbruck , Manfred Scheuer . Golser's motto was Christ pax nostra .

Golser was a proven expert in bioethics . He was a member of the Provincial Ethics Committee of South Tyrol and lecturer in business ethics and ethics in information technology at the Free University of Bolzano . In 2010 he received the Tyrolean Decoration of Honor .

On July 27, 2011, Benedict XVI. his resignation for health reasons ( atypical Parkinson's syndrome ) submitted. Golser died on Christmas Night in 2016 as a result of his illness.

Foundation and Bishop Karl Golser Prize

2015 was in Bolzano with the agreement by Karl Golser the Bishop Dr. Karl Golser Foundation established. The aim of the foundation is to provide medical information about Atypical Parkinson's Syndrome (APS) to those affected and their relatives. Another purpose of the foundation is to promote scientific research on the APS through to the development of new and effective drugs. The patron of the foundation is Arno Kompatscher , honorary president Ivo Muser and president of the foundation board Gregor K. Wenning .

The President of the Scientific Advisory Board is Hartmann Hinterhuber . In 2018, the Advisory Board awarded the Bishop Dr. Karl Golser Prize, endowed with € 20,000, to Gabor Kovacs Medical University Vienna and Vikram Khurana ( Harvard Medical School ) for the first time. The prize is to be awarded every two years.
